Scotland WILPF

Outreach coffee morning in Edinburgh Demonstration at Faslane Naval Base, 6 June 2010

WILPF has re-established a branch in Edinburgh which meets regularly and is actively engaged in WILPFs campaigning work. The re-establishment of the branch caught the attention of Rob Gibson MSP who congratulated WILPF with a statement in Parliament which you can be read on his blog.

The branch meets once a month and welcomes new members. For information about how to get involved, please emailĀ orĀ contact the office.

The Scottish branch is very active in campaigns for Nuclear Disarmament. Scottish WILPF marked the end of the Non-Proliferation Treaty Review Conference in May 2010 with a trip to the Faslane Naval Base, home of trident, members kicked up a song and dance calling for the abolition of nuclear weapons. Here is a video filmed at the Faslane Naval Base in 2010:

Amongst many other activities the branch campaigned during the 16 days of Activism Against Gender Based Violence where they linked with Scottish Feminist organization Engender to sponsor a speaker for the cross party group on Men’s Violence Again Women and Children in the Scottish Parliament. Activities planned for 2011 include a video encouraging women to use their vote in the Scottish parliamentary election in May.
